Rewind to January 2005 and Vauxhall announced its hottest ever hatch: The Vauxhall Astra VXR.
It was fitted with a 2-litre 16V Z20LEH 4-cylinder turbo charged engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, producing a whopping 240 bhp and 320Nm at 1.2 bar.
The VXR could accelerate to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 152 mph.

Externally it featured lowered and uprated VXR sports suspension, 321mm front ventilated and 278mm rear disc brakes with blue callipers, 18-inch six spoke alloy wheels with 225/40 R18 ultra-low profile tyres, VXR honeycomb sports front grille and air dam bumper, VXR fog lamps, VXR side sills and roof spoiler, VXR rear bumper with centre exit exhaust tuned for sound optimisation and dual ellipsoidal headlights.

THE STORY

The original owner ordered this example in April 2005 as a birthday present to himself with an expected delivery date of September, however due to manufacturing delays the car didn’t arrive until December. It was apparently the first Vauxhall Astra VXR to arrive in Scotland.
The price was £21,000 with optional satnav and aircon.
Owner: “The car was pampered from day one. Even the children took their shoes off on the very rare occasion that they got in it, in fact, I’m sure they travelled in it just twice. In the 14 years of ownership the car saw rain once. I decided to create a future classic. I had four cars at the time all cleaned and covered and for years I started them and gave them a run religiously.”

HISTORY

Supplied new by Vauxhall main dealer Belmont of Selkirk and supplied to its new owner on the 21st December 2005.
This example has a complete history file. The original Vauxhall service book contains 2 service stamps, the first being its interim service at 4,282 miles before being dry stored followed by its most recent major service at 4,424 miles.
Included in the history file is the leather driver’s pouch, original stamped service book, owner’s manual, navigation CD and manual, audio manual, Astra quick reference guide, AA Vauxhall assistance card, vehicle ID tag, Vauxhall car pass card, original VXR launch brochure, original V5C, V11, every tax disc, a collection of letters from Vauxhall to the owner, service invoices, original number plates with matching window sticker (the owner was a car dealer at the time and had his logo on the number plates and window sticker from new), two original keys, two key rings, tyre repair kit and locking wheel nut set.

EXTERIOR

Original Flame Red paintwork throughout. The gloss, depth, shine and overall quality of the paint is to a show standard.
Paint depth readings were taken, and we can confirm all panels and paint to be factory original.
The exterior & interior rubbers, glass, lenses and trim are original and in fine unmarked condition.
The interior, exterior, undercarriage, wheels, wheel arches and engine bay have been cleaned and finished to a show standard.
To add further gloss, U.V & heat protection and chemical resistance a ceramic coating has been expertly applied to the exterior paint.
The vehicle has been professionally detailed and prepared to a show standard with an eye on maintaining the original surface feel and texture.
Due to the vehicle being kept away from U.V rays and under cover no sun bleaching to trim, rubber or paint is present.
This vehicle was in the detailing bay for five days and we are confident that you could enter this VXR into a concours event.

INTERIOR

The interior still maintains that new car smell and is in showroom condition.
VXR leather steering wheel, VXR gear knob and Recaro sports seats with leather trimmed side bolsters still look the part.
Fitted with optional Satnav and aircon.
Carpet is defect free, VXR floor mats again like it’s just left the factory.
All dials and switch gear function correctly and even the kickplates still have the cellophane protection in place.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 2-litre 16V Z20LEH 4-cylinder turbo charged engine has just benefited from a major service and health check carried out by a Vauxhall main agent, to include a new timing belt, water pump, rollers, oil, fluids and a Vauxhall battery. OEM parts were used.
The engine and transmission feel tight, extremely fast and as you would expect a 4,448 mile engine and gearbox to perform.
All original service parts have been kept.
The engine bay retains all the factory labels and is finished to a show standard.
The vehicles undercarriage and wheel arches have been thoroughly detailed and retain a finish as you would expect on a vehicle with such low mileage.

WHEELS, TYRES, BRAKES

The four 18-inch six spoke alloy wheels with 225/40 R18 ultra-low profile tyres are in an amazing condition with just the one alloy showing a small mark.
The alloys are wrapped in brand new Continental Premium Contact 6 tyres, these are Continental’s newest performance tyre.
The VXR will be supplied with its four original 225/40 R18 92Y Continental SportContact 2 tyres, these are not cracked and retain plenty of tread however due to the tyre manufacturer’s recommendations all tyres are new.

BOOT

As new with an unmarked parcel shelf and carpet with an unused tyre repair kit in place of the spare wheel.
